SK 23 81 PARISH OF HATHERSAGE SHEFFIELD ROAD 6/55 27.11.79 Toll Bar Cottage II

Former tollhouse. Early C19. Coursed square gritstone with coped gables and moulded kneeler; central stone ridge stack with diagonally set ashlar chimneys on chamfered plinths, with moulded caps. Stone slated roof. Single storey, two bays, with 2-light chamfer mullioned windows with semi-circular heads, Set below hoodmould with stops. Central doorway with chamfered surround, shallow pointed arched head below hoodmould with stops. Planked and studded door. C20 window joinery. The building is associated with the Sheffield to Manchester Turnpike, which was begun in mid C18.
