- ing to south west of Limehead
- Cottage
II

Two cottages and adjoining stables. Circa mid to late C18, the stables added possibly in
early to mid C19. Granite rubble with large quoins. Rag slate roof with gable ends.
Slightly higher roof to range on left. Internal stone rubble end stacks, the right hand
stack rebuilt to serve adjoining property. Plan: left hand cottage probably slightly
earlier; of probably 1 room plan; the entrance near the centre gives access directly into
the ground floor room which is heated by an end stack on left. Circa mid C19 stair on
right, possibly in position of earlier stair or ladder. The right hand cottage is also of
1 room plan with entrance on left, probably directly into the ground floor room, heated by
the end stack on right. Circa early C19 stair on right hand gable end to rear of fire-
place. Entrance porches probably added in late C18 or early C19. In circa early to mid
C19 a small outbuilding was added on the left hand gable end of the earlier left hand
cottage. This was probably a stable, later used as a killing house. Exterior: Cottages
of 2 storeys with asymmetrical 1:1 window front onto road. Porches of stone rubble with
lean-to slate roofs near centre. C19 doors. 2 centre hung 2-light casements on first
floor. Stable to left with plank doors. Rear elevation with C19 2-light casements in
original openings. Interior: Particular unaltered and unspoilt. The left hand cottage
has a Cornish range, manufactured in Wadebridge and a circa mid C19 stair with complete
partitioning. The right hand cottage has a circa early C19 stair and the fireplace has
been partly altered to accommodate a flue from the adjoining house. Both cottages have
slight possibly C19 ceiling beams and roof structures with principals halved, lapped and
pegged at the apices. The collars appear to have been raised. Particularly unaltered
cottages of 1-room plan.
