4/2 Carnon Mine Engine House

II

Ruin of beam engine house. Circa 1800. Slatestone rubble with timber lintels U- shaped on plan walling survives from rectangular structure with part of thicker bob wall to south west, south-east wall and part of north-east wall. Originally 3 storeys over basement but remaining walling is 2 floors high. Plinth in 2 stages to top of basement level. South east wall has doorway, right, over plinth. Small opening to left, slightly higher, and further small opening above left-hand jamb of doorway. Interior has recesses indicating position of floor structures. A rare example of an early engine house and in an important scenic position overlooking Restronguet Creek.
