Details

ERTH BARTON 1. 5155 Chapel at Erth Barton (formerly listed as Chapel adjoining Erth Barton SX 35 NE 3/21A 17.1.52 II GV 2. Possibly late C13. 2 storeyed building in rubble with ashlar dressings. First floor chapel with 3 light traceried east window and single light lateral windows. C19 slate roof at original pitch. Interior: rare arch to east window, piscina. Traces of mediaeval wall pointing (now very mutilated, only bits of drapery now visible and decoration panel). The chapel is entered at first floor level from a flight of stone steps above the entrance to the lower chamber which is a cider house still retaining presses. Lower chamber has further door to left and a partly blocked window (formerly pointed), similar blocked window to east with pigeon holes. AM
