2. Originally 2 houses. Stone with C18 diapered brick front, shallow pitched late slate roof, deep eaves with paired brackets. 4 brick chimneys. 4 widely spaced windows to 1st and 2nd floors, sash with glazing bars, plain wooden cases, shallow stucco reveals and small cill, painted stucco head slightly arched with keystone. Moulded band at 1st floor level. Ground floor, cement rendered, has 1 window at both extremities similar to those described above. In the centre is a wooden "colonnade" of 4 bays, plain piers supporting an entablature with triglyph frieze. Originally paired doorways with 2 windows between, the entrance is now at the left hand end, the other 3 spaces have each a late 2-light casement window. There is a 2 storey extension to the right. Brick. 2 windows. Bracketted eaves to slate roof. 2 light 4 centred arch headed windows on 1st floor. Modern window on ground floor to right of coach arch.

Nos 36 to 40 (even) Church Street form a group with Stratford House, Mill Lane and all the listed buildings in the Market Square.
