House, formerly used for coastguard. C18. Stone rubble with granite quoins, partly
painted. Wheat reed thatched roof with brick chimneys over gable ends.
L-shaped 3 room plan: kitchen with large hearth left; unheated service room right;
parlour projecting at right angles in front. Doorway near angle right of kitchen
enters lobby for access to the 3 rooms and the straight flight stair behind the
parlour. Further doorway to right hand wall of service room.
Two storeys. Regular one window east front with parlour wing projecting at right
angles with one window south front. Doorway near angle with parlour has original
C18 4-panel door, ledged inside. 12-pane horizontal sliding sashes to east front
and 12-pane hornless sashes to parlour front.
At the gable ends are small 'look out' windows for the coastguards.
Interior is virtually unaltered. Bowtell moulded beams to kitchen and fielded-panel
2-panel door leads into parlour. 1st floor and parlour not inspected.
Used for coastguard until late C19.
A virtually complete C18 coastguards house.
