6/87 The Thatched Cottage, associated buildings, ruins and garden walls
GV II
Small house, outbuilding, adjoining ruins and garden walls. Circa early C18. Granite moorstone rubble with selected and partly dressed quoins, jambstones and lintels. Corrugated asbestos roof (formerly thatched) with original granite chimney over left hand gable end and later brick chimney over right hand gable end. Two room plan with cross passage between. The right hand room is wider, presumably originally the hall/kitchen old lean to at rear right and small C20 addition at rear left. Small single storey single-cell outbuilding possibly a stable adjoins at right anglesito the left hand side of the front. Extensive ruins of former building adjoin at: the left hand front corner of the house. Two storeys with 1st floor rooms partly in the roof space. Nearly symmetrical 3 window roughly south front with central doorway, now with C20 window. The other windows are 4-pane horned sashes, those to the 1st floor in heightened openings. Interior not inspected. The garden wall is painted granite rubble and with the small outbuilding, encloses a shallow rectangular garden. The gateway aligns with the original doorway of the house. In front of the wall is a cobbled pavement. The ruin at the left hand side of the house, and the stone and earth hedge fronting the road, enclose another rectangular area.
