2/306 Weigh house at approx 25m south
west of Calenick House
GV II
Iron weighing shed. Circa early C19. Rubble walls and hipped scantle slate roofs
with scantle slated lean-to at west and long roof adjoining to south with hip to
south end. Clay ridge tiles.
Overall L-shaped plan of single cell slightly rectangular weigh house with wide
doorway to north and east and smaller doorway to east leading to lean-to addition, in
turn linked to long room to south.
Single storey. Simple lintelled openings. South range has weather boarding to east
wall.
Interior has original pine roof structures and heavy weighing beam spanning middle
of weigh house from east to west.
A simple but interesting survival from the period of iron smelting on this site
dating from 1711-1891.
