3.2.67 Lancotbury

The description shall be amended to read:-
House. Circa early to mid C16. Close-studded timber frame with painted brick nogging. plain tile roof with gabled ends. Brick axial and gable end stacks. 3-room and through passage plan, the hall and parlour heated from back to back fireplace in axial stack; the service room to right (SE) has a later gable end stack and may have been unheated originally. Of the 3 chambers only the hall and the parlour chambers are heated. In circa C17 a stair tower was built at the rear (NE) of the hall/parlour axial stack. Circa C18 or C19 single storey addition at SE end. 2 storeys. 5 window south west front (now the back), the first floor is jetted out on joist ends and jetty beams on curved brackets; both ground and first floor are close-studded. Various C19 and C20 casements, ground floor centre a C19 24-pane sash, blocked window to left and panelled door to right of centre. Lower hipped roof over single storey extension on right. Rear (now front) also close studded, various C19 and C20 2 and 3-light casements, C20 panelled door to left of centre and gabled timber stair tower to right of centre with later lean-to in angle to left. Interior: All three ground floor rooms have chamfered axial beams and broad chamfered joists with straight cut stops, the hall with chamfered cross-beam as well. Hall has fire inside ashlar fireplace, its broad moulded joists running into a large moulded Tudor arch lintel. Parlour-has smaller moulded stone fireplace and C20 panelling. Exposed Close-studding and curved tension braces and close-studded partitions. C17 staircase in tower with chamfered newels and symmetrical turned balusters. Hall and parlour chambers have moulded Tudor arch stone fireplaces, the parlour chamber open to the roof. Jowled wall posts, tie-beams and clasped side-purlin roof complete with common rafters without ridgepiece.
