MEDMENHAM HENLEY ROAD SU 88 SW (south side) Medmenham Gates, with 8/138 attached gates & gate-piers 16.8.83 - II House. C16, with N.W. end refronted and extended early-mid C18, and N.W. chimney rebuilt c.1900. C18 build is of knapped and coursed flint with brick quoins and bonded vertical strips flanking windows. Rear wing timber-framed with brick infill, part tile-hung. Old tile roof, hipped over front block. Brick chimneys, that to left with lower part of c.1900 knapped flint and stone chequers. L-plan. 2 storeys and attic. Front has 3-bay fenestration with leaded cross windows, part renewed 1985, those to ground floor with cambered heads. C19 matching window inserted to left. Original outer bays have doors, the left door 3-panelled with rectangular fanlight, the right door flush-panelled with C20 gabled wooden porch. 2 hipped dormers with paired leaded casements. Chimney to left has moulded stone string arched over plaque with initials HEK (Hudson Ewbanke Kearley of Wittington), and has stepped left side with stone scroll to gate piers at left end of house. Pair of cast iron gates with same initials and matching pier to left. Rear wing has leaded casements and substantial timbering with heavy wall-braces, arched wind-braces, and stop-chamfered joists.
