Details

MEDMENHAM HENLEY ROAD SU 88 SW (DANESFIELD) 8/140 West Lodge to Danesfield House 21.10.81 GV II Former lodge, now house. Dated 1874 on plaque carved with arms of Charles Robert Scott Murray. Probably after design of Pugin who built the R.C. chapel in Danesfield grounds. Knapped flint with brick quoins, flush strings and surrounds to openings. Plain tile roof, crow-stepped gables with pyramidal brick coping and moulded brick kneelers. Central square brick chimney with off-sets and 'V' pilasters. 1½ storeys, 2 bays. Wooden cross windows with chamfered brick surrounds. Surrounds have pairs of small 4-centred arches set below 4-centred flush relieving arch. Central 2-storey projecting porch with crow-stepped gable, board door in 4-centred chamfered arch, stone lozenge with coat of arms, and pair of first floor lights with 4-centred relieving arch. 1984 single storey matching extension to right.
