Former workhouse and school, last used as a children's home. Late C18 and early C19. Red and vitreous brick with dentil eaves and hipped tile roofs. U-plan, the far wing probably of earlier build than the long side wings. 2 storeys. Far wing of 5 bays, altered, with 2 3-light barred wooden casements to ground floor left, 2 similar casements to first floor and 2 blind windows to ground floor right. Ground floor openings have segmental heads of vitreous brick. Central double doors with segmental head and white painted brick surround. Side wings are of 7 bays. Left wing has paired barred wooden casements to first floor, the ground floor windows boarded up. Left bay is irregular with board door in wide opening to ground floor and C20 glazed door above. Another board door between bays 2 and 3; passage between right bays. All ground floor openings have cambered heads. Right wing is irregular with altered windows, some blind, some with C20 casements. Across the front of the courtyard is a brick dwarf wall with cast iron railings and stone steps to gate at left. C20 extensions to sides, single storey pebbledashed wing to rear.
