BOYTON DARRACOTT

5/17 Darracott Farmhouse
-
II

Farmhouse. Circa late C17, extended in probably early C19. Stone rubble and cob,
hung with rag slates on front elevation. Steeply pitched rag slate roof with gable
ends. Stone rubble and brick end stacks and brick shaft to axial stack on rear
slope.
Plan: Originally probably a 2-room and cross passage single depth plan with entrance
slightly to right of centre. The right hand room was possibly the hall kitchen and
the left hand room a parlour. The left hand room was possibly in the C18 or C19
partitioned off with a dairy to rear, the partition now removed. Outshut extension
across rear of passage and right hand room probably added in early C19. The lean-to
outshut on left was previously an apple store and the right hand lean-to extension
is C20.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Regular 3 window front, late C19 porch to right of centre
with C19 panelled door. Renewed 2-light casement to left and C19 3-light casement
to right. Three C19 2-light casements on first floor.
Interior: C19 stair on right hand side of passage. Lintels to fireplaces in front
ground floor rooms replaced.
