Details
COTHERSTONE EAST GREEN NZ 0119 (East side) 30/46 12/1/67 The Manor House II Large house. Possibly mid C17 core with early C18 and mid C19 alterations and additions. Rendered rubble with ashlar details. Graduated slate roof and stone chimney stacks.
Continuous 2-storey, irregular 5-bay front of 2 builds with raised quoins. 4-bay left section: partly-glazed 6-panel door in third bay in stone doorcase with banded rustication, superimposed architrave, pulvinated frieze and cornice hood. Wide late C20 canted bay window to left. Almost square, 2-pane sash in architrave to right; 4 identical sashes and surrounds above. One-bay right section, added in mid C19, has 2-pane sashes in projecting surrounds with chamfered sills. Roof with coped gables and shaped kneelers. Left end rubble stack with corniced rear section; tall rebuilt right end stack with top band.
Interior. Large bolection-moulded stone chimney-piece with corniced mantel set across corner of hall. 2-flight, cut-string staircase with stick balusters and ramped handrail. Roof structure: 2 upper crucks of heavy scantling, in older left section of-house, flank central cross wall; crucks are tenoned into saddles, have halved collars and support 2 tiers of trenched purlins. Similar C19 cruck of lighter scantling in later right section.
Link section attached to right return is not of special interest.
