1/171 Trethannas Farmhouse
-

GV II

Farmhouse used as store. Probably circa early C18 but may be a remodelling of a Cl7
house. Granite rubble walls with dressed granite quoins, jambstones, sills and
lintels. Scantle slate roof with dressed granite chimney over each gable end, the
left hand chimney larger.
2 room plan: larger hall/kitchen left with large fireplace, smaller room right with
smaller fireplace, presumably the parlour, through passage between but partitions
removed. Eaves heightened probably in the C19 and a dairy added behind the right
hand room at about the same time. Rear doorway enlarged C20. Over the doorway of
and outbuilding a few metres to the north is a reused chamfered granite fragment
possibly from the house or from an earlier house on the same site or nearby.
2 storeys. Nearly symmetrical 2 window south front with the doorway slightly right
of middle and the left hand window openings slightly irregularly disposed. 4-panel
door, later glazed to top panels. Windows boarded up or missing.
Interior. C19 floors and roof structure, the original fireplaces partly blocked.
A simple house hardly altered since the C19 and retaining 2 fine original chimneys.
