GV II
Farmhouse and garden wall to front. Circa late C16 or early C17, possibly with earlier origins, extended and remodelled in mid C19 and in late C20. Stone rubble. Rag slate and asbestos slate roofs with gable ends. Rebuilt front lateral stack with cloam-oven projection and brick shaft to end stack on right. Plan: Original plan uncertain. The house appears to have originally comprised at least a 3-room and through passage plan, the ground sloping down to left (south). The hall, heated by a front lateral stack, remains largely unaltered and the passage is now accommodated at the lower left hand end of the house. On the higher right hand side of the hall, the house has been either considerably remodelled or rebuilt in the mid C19 and comprises a stair hall with reception room beyond and wing of 1- room plan to rear. The lower end of the house, below the passage, was demolished in the mid to late C20 and replaced with a single storey service range and garage. Exterior: 2 storeys. Regular 1:3 window front with C19 hornless sashes. The masonry on the front left indicated considerable rebuilding around the lateral hall stack; the masonry on the right appears C19 in character and the sashes have brick dressings. Entrance to right of centre with part glazed C19 door and late C19 or C20 porch flanked by two 20-pane sashes with 16-pane sash to far left. Four 16-pane sashes on first floor. C20 single storey extension on lower left hand end. Low stone rubble walls enclosing garden to front of house with mounting block on east; probably C19. Interior: Hall on left has heavy chamfered floor joists wih deep run-out stops. The fireplace, in the front lateral stack, projects into the room and is now partly blocked and accommodates a Rayburn stove. C19 stair in entrance hall and C19 plaster cornice and ceiling rose to reception room. First floor not accessible. The extent of the C19 alterations to the house is uncertain and it is possible that much of the house may have been remodelled rather than rebuilt and thus, several of the early features may have been covered over rather than removed.
