ST ERTH SW 5435-5535 13/198 The Old Vicarage -
GV II Former vicarage, now private house. Circa early C18 possibly incorporating walls, extended in the C19 and C20. Stuccoed front, otherwise killas rubble with granite dressings. Steep scantle slate roof with brick chimneys over the gable ends and axial chimney over cross wall towards right. Cast-iron ogee gutters. Plan: C18 part of house is an L-shaped plan with 4 bays fronting the double depth main range and returning for 2 bays of wing at right angles in front of the right hand side. Thw C18 stair hall is behind this wing. At far left is a circa 1840s' addition with reception room at the front and entrance hall behind. At right angles to rear right is a C20 2-storey wing. Exterior: 2-Storeys. Regular overall 5 window south-west front. The 4 right-hand bays and gable-ended wing projecting in front at far right (with 2 window front facing left) are C18 with circa early C19 12-pane hornless sashes or horned copies. C19 bay at far left and fourth from left ground floor are blind window openings. Only doorway is into the wing near the angle with C20 glazed door. Left-hand return wall is a 3 window entrance front with original circa 1840s' 12-pane hornless sashes and wide doorway with doorcase and pair of 6-panel doors. Mid-way along right hand wall is a circa early C18 24-pane sash with wide glazing bars and some original crown glass. Interior: retains many of the C18 features including : dog-leg closed-string stair with closely-set cloumn-set column-turned balusters and moulded handrail ; many fielded panelled doors with HL hinges and some of the roof structure (not inspected).
