House, now post office and house. Circa mid C17 extended im mid to later C19.
Rendered and painted stone rubble and cob. Rag slate roof with gable ends.
Projecting end stack on right with short brick shaft. Parallel range to rear with
slightly higher slate roof with gable ends.
Plan: 2-room and cross or through passage plan, the ground sloping down to right and
entrance slightly to left of centre. Larger hall-kitchen on right, heated by end
stack. Smaller left hand room possibly unheated. C19 framed stair inserted in
passage. Later circa mid to later C19 range to rear, added parallel to earlier
range, comprising a 3-room plan, now accommodating the post office, shop and further
reception room.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3-window front earlier range with circa late C18
to early C19 casements with small panes of glass and stanchion bars on ground floor.
Two 3-light casements flank a C20 door, slightly to left of centre. Two 3-light
casements flanking 2-light casement on first floor. Regular 4-window rear elevation
with brick segmental arches and 16-pane horned sashes on first floor.
Interior: C19 framed stair inserted in passage of earlier range, the unheated left
hand room with large chamfered waney floor joists and the right hand room with
slightly lighter, more closely set chamfered floor joists. Slate flag floors. C20
fireplace in right hand room with C19 cast-iron grate to bedroom fireplace above.
Roof structure of earlier range with 4 roughly cut trusses, lap-jointed and pegged at
apices.
