House, now 2 houses. Probably early C18, with later C18 alterations, divided, re-
united and divided again in C19, with C20 alterations. Rubble, rendered, slate roof
with gable end stacks. Cast iron railings.
Originally 2 front rooms and central entrance to double depth plan; central entrance
now to house to right (Cobble Close) and entrance to left side to Lexden.
3 storeys on basement, 2 windows, ground floor has plate-glass sash to left and C20
window to right, central panelled and glazed door with overlight with Gothic glazing.
First floor has plate-glass and 16-pane sash, 2nd floor has 2-light casement, two 4-
pane sashes and 12-pane sash; reeded cornice with modillions to left. Attached to
front left, range of cast iron lyre pattern railings, ramped down flight of 12
granite steps, cast iron gate at bottom with Greek key panel at mid rail. Basement
has 6-pane sash and door to left.
Left side has 2-storey rear wing; plate-glass sash at ground and first floor left,
and in rear wing C20 door and 4-pane sash at ground and first floor left.
Interior of Cobble Close Entrance to passage with dog-leg stair with stick balusters
to rear. Partition wall to right of vertical fielded panelling. Room to front has
moulded plaster cornice, panelled lower doors remaining from cupboards to right and
left of C20 fireplace.
Interior of Lexden not inspected.
