Details
WINSFORD FORMER U.D. WHITEGATE ROAD SJ 66 NW 4/128 Lych-gate in churchyard of St Mary. - GV II Lych-gate. Dated 1921 on inscribed bressumer which reads: TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN LOVING MEMORY OF KATHERINE LUCY CHOLMONDELEY BORN 12TH NOV 1824 DIED 6 MAR 1921 THIS GATE IS ERECTED BY HER CHILDREN. Timber frame with plain tile roof above an ashlar base. Square body with gabled roof. Low ashlar base with chamfered top. Close studding with middle rail to sides without infill and arches to road and churchyard fronts. Decorative timber-framed infill to gables with decorative bargeboards and bargeposts. Inscription to road front bressumer on churchyard front reads as above. Inscription to road front reads: THEM : WHICH : SLEEP : IN : JESUS : WILL : GOD : BRING : WITH : HIM. Included for group value.
