Details
NEWTON ST CYRES THE VILLAGE SX 89 NE 5/40 Shuttern Cottage - (formerly listed as 23 The 26.8.65 Village) GV II House made up from at least 2 adjoining cottages. Probably C18, coverted circa 1970. Plastered cob on rubble footings, cob and brick stacks, thatched roof. 2- storey, L-shaped building adjoining Pump Cottage (q.v.). Breaks in roof line and internal cob walls suggest former property divisions. Massive cob stack to rear of front block. Street front with 2 irregularly-spaced C20 casements on each floor. Secondary door to street. Long side elevation to garden includes main door under open C20 porch with gabled tile roof on raking struts. Irregular C19 casements with glazing bars concentrated towards centre and street. Cob garden wall with pitched, pantile top continues along street from corner of house to plain stone pier. Interior of house much altered circa 1970. Included for group value.
