Details
REDRUTH PENRYN STREET SW 64 SE (east side) 11/287 No.4 II GV Pair of shops with dwelling over. Early to mid C19; altered. Cross-wall construction, the gable wall of uncoursed killas rubble with granite quoins, the facade rendered above the ground floor shop fronts; slate roof with brick chimneys. Rectangular plan with projecting stair turret to rear. Three storeys and 3 bays, almost symmetrical. The ground floor consists of two C19 shop fronts flanking a central entrance passage; the shop windows are each of 4 tall lights with semi-elliptical arched heads, secured by slender wooden shafts, the inner light of each canted back to a recessed doorway, and the whole formerly enclosed by a horizontal sliding shutter (the curved track of which is visible in the soffit of the fascia); all 3 doorways have square overlights, that on the left altered but the others with margin panes at top and bottom (those in the centre coloured); deep fascia with dentilled cornice. The upper floors have a banded pilaster to the right-hand corner; the central window on each floor is blind or blocked, and that at 1st floor has a cornice on consoles; to the left of this is a shallow oriel, formerly with rounded corners but now with altered glazing, to the right a 4-pane sash; the outer bays at 2nd floor have 16-pane sashes; all these windows have wooden architraves. Gable chimneys.
