Details
NEWTON ST CYRES THE VILLAGE SX 89 NE 5/42 No. 19 - 26.8.65 GV II
Formerly 2 cottages, now 1 house. C17. Plastered cob on rubble footings. Cob stack topped with C19 brick. Thatched roof hipped to left. Originally 2 single- room cottages on 2 floors with layouts mirrored either side of cob dividing wall containing back-to-back fireplaces in central axial stack. Roughly symmetrical front, 2 windows to ground floor, 1 to first, in each unit. 1 original oak window- frame on first floor right; 3 lights with ovolo-moulded mullions under a small gable with C19 shaped bargeboards. Other windows C19 and C20 casements. The outer ground floor pair replace original doorways. Entrance now on left end through C20 porch. Original features hidden by later plaster and fittings internally. Once part of a row extending further north-west.
