Former railway station, 1847, by G. T. Andrews. Red brick with stone dressings,
slate roof. Station complex consists of booking hall, covered platform to
rear, linking wing to station masters' house to left. Booking hall:
One storey, 7 bays 1:5:1. Moulded plinth, rusticated quoins. Central 5
bays recessed behind arcade of 5 round-headed arches, with continuous
dripmould, on pilasters with moulded bases and capitals. Central 2-leaf
6-panelled door under fanlight with radial glazing in architrave with
imposts, moulded round arch, and shaped projecting keystone, flanked by
sashes with glazing bars in shouldered architraves with moulded sills and
sill band. Flanking bays each have rusticated quoins to both sides and a
central sash window, with glazing bars, in an architrave with moulded sill
on dwarf pilasters with sunk panels. Sill band. Deep bracketed eaves
cornice, low parapet, 3 axial stacks, hipped roof. Covered platform:
one storey, 5 bays and a half-bay to each end. Rusticated corner pilasters,
pilaster buttresses, narrow string below coved eaves cornice, hipped roof.
Linking wing to left: in same style as booking hall and station-master's
house. One storey, 3 bays. Moulded plinth, 3 blocked doors in architraves.
Moulded cornice, parapet concealing low-pitched roof.
