Cottage. Circa 1800 with C20 rear addition. Cob on stone rubble footings, colourwashed and rendered, right gable end wall stone rubble, thatched roof gabled at the right end, right end stack with brick shaft. One of a pair of cottages which were formerly 3 properties, the right-hand end of No 2 may have been a 1-cell cottage, the left-hand end one half of a 2-cell cottage. The present plan is single depth, 2-rooms wide with the larger heated room to the right and the front door to the left. The C20 addition to the rear is single-storey and flat-roofed. 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 2-window front, front door to the left under a sloping corrugated asbestos roof. The thatch eaves are eyebrowed over first floor window right. C19 2-light casements, 6 panes per light. Interior The right-hand room has a C20 grate and 1 original roughly-chamfered cross beam, the ceiling has been raised and new oak joists inserted. No access to roofspace at time of survey (1985) but the principal rafters upstairs suggest that the original roof trusses exist. An old photograph in the possession of the owner shows Nos land 2 Gridley Corner as 3 properties. One of a group of thatched cottages at Gridley Corner.
