TA 0339 BEVERLEY NEWBEGIN (north side) 9/192 Nos 14 and 16 1.3.50 GV II* Late C17. Formerly one large house. Two storeys and attic in red brick with hipped tiled roof. Shaped bracketed eaves cornice, boldly carved, in wood. Three dormers,the centre one modern. Seven windows, gauged brick flat arches, near flush frame sashes with glazing bars. Centre doorway with wide steps with wrought iron guard rail and foot scrapers. Stone doorcase with bolection moulded shouldered architrave, pulvinated frieze and cornice. Early C19 wood traceried fanlight. Eaves cornice carried round sides of house. Rear elevation gabled, four windows, blocked on east side, and various other additions and alterations to the house. Staircase of 1690-type: closed moulded string with pulvinated frieze, spiral balusters, moulded handrail, and plain newels with drop finials. Back stairs with closed string, plain newels, vase-shaped balusters and simply moulded handrail. Hall has stone-flagged floor, and moulded panelled dado. Other rooms have good details and proportions of circa 1810.
