Details

SHOBROOKE LITTLE SILVER SS 80 SE The Village 2/74 Nos. 5, 6 and 7 - II Row of 3 cottages. Formerly house and cottage. Late C16 - early C17 divided and extended in late C18 or C19, and C20 extensions. Plastered cob with rubble footings; extensions of cob and brick; cob, volcanic stone and brick stacks, all topped with C19 and C20 brick; thatched roof. Long narrow building facing road to south. Original 3 room and through passage plan with inner room downhill to right. Now 2-storeys. Large plastered projecting lateral stack to front of hall (No. 6) and formerly gable end stacks each side. Service end (No. 5) extended 1 room in late C18 - early C19 built with brick and rubble. Inner room (No. 7) extended with 2-storey cob block with hipped roof set back from main block with large rear stack (probably separate cottage originally) and further extended in C20 with single room under thatched roof. Main block has irregular 5-window front of C19 and C20 casements. 2 first floor windows at left end retain small, leaded, diamond-panes in 2- and 3-light frames. Door to No. 6 into through passage. Door to No. 7 behind slate-roofed porch in 2 window front of adjoining wing. Interior of main block has few early features exposed but side-pegged jointed cruck roof in No. 6. Rear outshuts are C20 and of no interest.
