FENITON SY 09 NE 6/52 Sheridon - GV II

Cottage. Probably C18, service extension of 1987. Plastered cob on stone rubble footings; stone rubble stack topped with C20 brick; thatch roof, slate to C20 extensions. Plan: the cottage faces north-north-west, say north, onto the lane. Originally a 2-room plan cottage. Now the partition between the 2 rooms has been removed. However it is clear that the right (west) room was the larger room and it is heated by a gable-end stack. The original front doorway is blocked and now there is a doorway in the left (east) end. Cottage is 2 storeys with single storey service extension to rear and right end. Exterior: symmetrical 2-window front with a third ground floor window in the centre blocking the original doorway; all are C20 casements with diamond leaded pane effect. The roof is gable-ended. C20 slate-roofed porch on the left end and C20 door. Interior: no carpentry is exposed on the ground floor. The large fireplace is built of squared blocks of local sandstone with a plain oak lintel and it contains a brick oven. Roof not inspected.
