4/421 Lychgate and adjoining churchyard walls south of Church of St 10.7.57 Gwendron (formerly listed as Lychgate at entrance to Churchyard)
GV II*
Lychgate with vestry or parish room over, and including adjoining churchyard walls forming south side of churchyard. Probably late C18. Granite ashlar walls. Scantle slate roof with granite coped gable ends. Granite ashlar chimney over the left-hand gable end. Plan: Rectangular plan with wide through passage to ground floor with stone benches at either side and central coffin rest. Room over approached by flight of stone steps from churchyard, with parallel longer flight outside the churchyard walls, to doorway at the right-hand end. Exterior: 2 storeys. Plinth and impost band. Wide central elliptically arched doorway (front and rear) with stepped projecting keystone. Wide window over with probably C20 18-pane 2-light casement. C19 door into parish room and C19 wrought- iron railings to the steps. Fitted to the inner doorway of the lychgate are old dowelled gates. Interior: The chamber above the gateway was not inspected.
