Details

SWINTON & PENDLEBURY MANCHESTER, BOLTON SD 70 SE AND BURY CANAL 2/13 Clifton Aqueduct, that part in Swinton 3.2.87 and Pendlebury G.V. II

Canal aqueduct over River Irwell. 1796. Charles Roberts and John Nightingale engineers. Dressed stone with brick arches. 3 segmental arches with keystones rest on triangular-ended cutwaters. Above the cutwaters are flat pilasters. C20 brick parapet on east side. Grooved for stop planks. Canal now disused.
