Church. 1847-8. By Dickson and Breakspear for the Church Commissioners. English bond brick with slate roof and stone dressings. Nave with clerestory, aisles and transepts; chancel flanked by side chapel and vestry. Gothic revival. 4-bay nave and aisles with projecting plinth, continuous sill band, weathered buttresses and porch in bay 1. Gabled transepts. West bellcote. Cusped lancet windows and trefoil clerestory windows. 3-bay chancel with C20 flat-roofed addition to north. Interior: octagonal columns support double-chamfered nave arcade arches with hoodmoulds and carved stops. Arch-braced collar-tie roof trusses springing from moulded corbels. Organ loft on west gallery. Timber fittings including a pulpit with sounding board and sanctuary panelling. Stained glass. W. Glover, The History of Ashton-under-Lyne, 1884.
