Cottage. Probably C18. Plastered cob on stone rubble footings; stone rubble or cob stacks topped with C19 brick; thatch roof. Plan: 2-room plan cottage built alongside the lane to the Church of St James (q.v) on a north-side axis with the south end as the front. The parlour at the front has a lateral stack on the left side and the kitchen behind has a projecting gable-end stack. 2 storeys with secondary lean-to outshots along the east side. Exterior: there is one window each floor. The ground floor casement may be original and it contains rectangular panes of leaded glass (another at first floor level in the rear end). The upper window is a late C19 - early C20 casement with glazing bars. The front doorway is to right of the window and it contains a C19 part-glazed 6-panel door under a contemporary flat-roofed hood on shaped brackets. The main roof is half-hipped at the front and gable-ended to rear. Interior: was not available for inspection at the time of this survey. Church Cottage is one of an exceptionally good group of listed buildings in the vicinity of the Church of St James (q.v).
