Farmhouse. C17, refurbished and enlarged in the early - mid C19. Plastered cob on stone rubble footings; one cob stack, the other brick, both topped with C19 and C20 brick; thatch roof. Plan: farmhouse faces south-south-west, say south. It has a 2-room plan with central through-passage. The left (west) room is the former kitchen with a large axial stack backing onto the passage. A narrow dairy or pantry is partitioned off at the left end. The right (east) room is the parlour and has an end stack. The C17 work is confined to the former kitchen/dairy section, possibly this was a complete C17 cottage. The present house is essentially the result of the early -mid C19 refurbishment when the passage and parlour were added. Now a rear outshot is used as a kitchen. 2 storeys with lean-to outshot to rear. Exterior: symmetrical 2-window front of early - mid C19 small 16-pane sashes arranged around a central front doorway which contains a part-glazed C20 door behind a contemporary gabled porch. The roof is hipped both ends. Interior: is largely the result of C19 and C20 modernisations. C17 work is confined to the former kitchen/dairy section. The kitchen fireplace is lined with C19 brick but its plain oak lintel may be original. The main crossbeam is a C20 replacement but the chamfered half beam is original. The roof over this section is carried on a side-pegged jointed cruck truss. Roofspace not accessible.
