4/75 The Village Hall -
II
Village hall, formerly the village school. 1871 with a late C20 extension. Snecked stone with stone dressings and a slate roof, gabled at ends, crested ridge tiles, stack at the junction between the 2 blocks ventilation pots on the ridge. Gothic style. Plan: L plan with 2 blocks at right angles to one another, porch at left end of main block. The small block has been extended in the C20, the extension is not included in the listing. Exterior: Single-storey. 2-bay south elevation with 2 square-headed 3-light transomed stone windows with cusped lights and ashlar relieving arches. A lean-to at the left end is the porch, with a chamfered Tudor arched stone doorframe and a stone 2-light square-headed window in the end wall. The east end wall of the main block has a Tudor arched 3-light transomed stone window with cusped lights, a hood mould and a bell in the gable. The smaller block has a 2-light square-headed window with a hood mould. Interior: Not inspected. A neat Gothic school in the village centre, with original windows.
