Details
COLDRIDGE WEST LEIGH SS 60 NE 1/42 - West Leigh Farmhouse (west) GV II
Farmhouse. Probably C18, refurbished in mid C19. Plastered cob on rubble footings, exposed to rear; stone rubble stacks topped with C19 brick; thatch roof to main house and interlocking concrete tile to kitchen block. T-shaped house. Main block facing south comprises 2 rooms with end stacks and central entrance hall with rear stairs. At left (east) end is a lower kitchen block with rear lateral stack. Unheated rear block at right angles behind centre oil main block. Main house has symmetrical 3-window front of C20 3-light casements without glazing bars and central C20 front door. The lower kitchen block to right has a 1-window front of C20 casements and a secondary door behind a C19 porch with slate monopitch roof. Both roofs are gable-ended and rear block has hipped roof. Right gable end of kitchen block has external stone stairs to first floor door. Interior is largely the result of C19 renovation and most joinery from that time. Fireplaces are blocked by C19 and C20 grates. Crossbeams of right room in main block and in kitchen are apparently deeply soffit-chamfered but are papered over. Roof not inspected.
