Cottage. Mid - late C17, enlarged and refurbished in the mid C19, modernised circa 1980. Plastered cob on stone rubble footings; some of south-east end is Heavitree stone; stacks variously cob; brick or stone rubble topped with C19 and C20 brick; thatch roof, slate to rear outshots. Plan: 3-room plan cottage facing south-west. The largest room is the centre room and it has an axial stack backing onto the left room. The right end room is now the kitchen and has a front lateral stack but this is a C20 insertion. It was formerly an unheated service room. Main stair and former kitchen in rear outshots. Present layout is the result of the mid C19 refurbishment. The original C17 house had a 2- room plan; the centre room and right room of the main block. 2 storeys with 2-storey lean-to outshots to rear. Exterior: the front wall is blind to right. The rest has a 3-window front. 2 are mid C19 casements with a margin-pane pattern of glazing bars, the rest are circa 1980 copies. Central doorway contains a mid C19 4-panel door under a contemporary gabled hood with shaped bargeboards. Main roof is half-hipped both ends. At the back the first floor windows are horned 4-pane sashes. Interior: contains mid C19 joinery detail. However the original 2-room plan contains mid - late C17 carpentry detail. The crossbeams are chamfered, one in the main room has scroll stops. The fireplace is blocked. Roof is carried on side- pegged jointed cruck trusses. A tall plastered wall projects forward from the left end front connecting the house to a small office, a C19 former outhouse. The wall formerly included a gateway.
