BRETHERTON NORTH ROAD SD 42 SE 3/21 White House Farmhouse 17.4.67 GV II
Farmhouse. Dated 1680 on porch, altered. Brick with some stone quoins, part whitewashed and part rendered, slate roof. Three-bay baffle-entry plan, with projecting porch. Two storeys, eaves raised; 2-storey gabled porch in line with ridge chimney at junction of 2nd and 3rd bays has round-headed entrance arch, a rectangular datestone above inscribed 1680, a slit peephole in each IW side, stone side benches, and an original batten and board door with studded battens, ornamental iron strap hinges, a pull-handle and a wooden sneck latch; 3 casement windows on each floor, those at ground floor segmental-headed 2, 2 and 3 lights and those above all 2 lights. Right gable has 3 brick labels at 1st floor, that in centre stepped up; rear has inter alia a damaged label to a blocked firewindow. Chimneys at left gable and on ridge. Interior: not inspected, but believed to contain inglenook with heck and moulded bressummer, 2 moulded longitudinal beams, and 2 service room doors.
