Details
NYMET ROWLAND NYMET ROWLAND SS 70 NW 2/57 Nos. 3 and 4 Pitt Court (formerly - listed as Pair of Cottages south- west of Pitt Court) GV II
2 cottages, formerly a barn. Late C17-early C18, converted to cottages in first half of C19, modernised in C20. Plastered cob on rubble footings; brick and stone rubble stacks, one with early C19 chimney shaft; corrugated asbestos roof (formerly thatch). Two 2-room plan cottages facing east in former barn. In C20 a cartshed on right (north) end was converted to provide a third room to the right hand cottage (No. 3). Both cottages have front lateral stacks. 2 storeys. Before the right end was brought into the No. 3 the converted barn had a symmetrical 2-window front and the C19 casements with glazing bars remain. In the centre the cottage doors stand side by side blocking the original barn door and are flanked by the short projecting midstrey walls. Either side are the inserted fireplaces but only the left one (No. 4) retains a chimney shaft. A third window and door are on the C20 extension. Roof is hipped each end. Interior is mostly C19 with plain carpentry detail and brick fireplaces with plain oak lintels. Barn roof however is original. it is carried on A-frame trusses with pegged and nailed lap-jointed collars.
