FARWAY
BALL LANE, Farway
Salters

II

Cottage. Probably C17. Plastered local stone and flint rubble, maybe with some
cob; stone rubble stack topped with C19 brick; thatch roof.
Plan: 2-room plan cottage facing south. The right room is heated by a gable-end
stack and an oven housing projects from the wall in front or it: Since no internal
inspection was available at the time of this survey it is not possible to determine
the exact layout here nor to describe any modernisations. Cottage is 2 storeys.
Exterior: irregular 2-window of C20 casements, one with glazing bars, the others
with rectangular panes of leaded glass. The front doorway is basically central and
it has a C20 thatched roof porch containing a C20 part-glazed door. The roof is
hipped to left and gable-ended to right.
Interior: was not available for inspection at the time of this survey.
Nevertheless, if the good group of roughly contemporary small cottages in nearby
Farway hamlet are anything to go by, C17 carpentry and other detail is suspected.
