Farmhouse. Circa early C17, extended probably in C18 local slate rubble. Asbestos slate roof with hipped ends and gable-ended wing. Stone rubble rear lateral stack with tall red brick shaft and stack on side of front wing also with brick shaft. Plan and development: The original circa early C17 home was probably a 3- room and through or cross passage plan, the lower left hand end of which has been demolished. There is an integral 2-storey porch to the front of the former passage. The hall has a lateral stack at the back but it is uncertain whether the parlour at the right end was heated. The 1-room plan wing at the front of the right hand end was probably built in the C18. A dairy and staircase were inserted into the back of the passage at the left hand end possibly when the lower left end was demolished. The staircase was moved to the rear of the parlour in C20 and the house accommodation extended into an outbuilding at the right hand end. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3-window south east front with projecting gable-ended wing to right and projecting 2-storey porch to left. The porch has chamfered dressed slate round arch and the first floor is corbelled out above a moulded string. late Cl9 or C20 glazed doors. C19 3 and 4-light casements with glazing bars, the centre windows to the hall and hall chamber are 4-lights. The right hand window in the gable end of the wing are C20. The gable end of the wing is said to have been rebuilt. Large C20 conservatory on front of porch. At the rear a large lateral stack with a tall red brick shaft. The left hand lower end has been truncated. The right hand end is now linked to an outbuilding by a later addition and the outbuilding is now part of the house accommodation. Interior: Only the ground floor was inspected. Much altered in C19 and C20. The right hand room has large chamfered cross-beams plastered over. The passageway was blocked when the dairy was formed. The hall fireplace has a C20 brick chimneypiece, The roof structure is said to have been largely replaced but the pegged principals remain according to the owner. The owner reported that a lintel (now concealed) over the hall front window has a date 1640 curved onto it.
