C15 and C16 house, formerly an inn. Timber-framed, two-bayed hall and cross-wing to
west, with C16 inserted floors, Cross-wing re-roofed and walls raised in height in
C16, hall extended one bay to east with later lean-to extensions to the north and
south. External walls rendered with some exposed framing. Old plain tile roofs.
Ridge stack with engaged red brick shafts, and external side stack to hall of colour-
washed brick. Modern casement windows to gabled dormer and three-window range at
ground-floor. Plank door to right hand of side stack.
Interior: Fine moulded ceiling beams to hall. Two inglenook hearths, one in cross-
wing sealed.
Once an important inn on the Market Square occupying a prominent position.
Black Horse Cottage to north-west is a C16 extension of the cross-wing.
