Details

WINKLEIGH COOPER'S HILL, Winkleigh SS 6308 11/158 Nos 1, 2 and 3 GV II Row of 3 cottages. Circa late C17 or early C18. Partly rendered rubble and cob walls. Thatch roof gabled to left end hipped to right. 2 brick stacks, one axial and one at left gable-end. Plan: each cottage probably 1-room plan originally but No. 3 to the right is larger with C19 lean-to against right-hand end, No. 1 has C20 rear addition. No 2 and 3 are both heated by the axial stack, No 1 by the stack at its left gable-end. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4-window front - 1:1:2 to each house. No 1 to left has circa mid C20 3-light casements without glazing bars and C20 part-glazed door to right. No 2 has late C19 or early C20 3-light casements without glazing bars and C20 part-glazed door to right. No 2 has late C19 or early C20 3-light casements to the right with stable type door to the left. No 3 to right has large late C20 single light top opening casements without glazing bars. Small gabled C20 porch to left with C19 panelled and glazed door behind. Tiled roof leanto against right-hand end. Interior: no early features visible in No 1, interiors of other cottages inaccessible at time of survey.
