CROSTON GRAPE LANE SD 41 NE 8/79 No. 35 17.4.67 - II
Farmhouse, now house. C17 or earlier, altered. Cruck frame with cladding of handmade brick, rendered, thatched roof with brick gable chimneys. Three bays, with modern extensions to rear and at right end. Gable to road. One and a half storeys; door at left end, four 3-light casements at ground floor and dormer casements of 2 and 4 lights in the eaves. Interior: 2 full cruck trusses, the 1st with large cambered tie-beam (part severed), wattle-and-daub infilling, a central post with mortices for lintels of 2 doors, and windbracing; the other similar but with angle struts, small dorsals, no windbracing, and punched wedge-shaped carpenter's marks; the rear wall, at the junction with the addition, has a timber wallplate with vacant housing for posts and wattling, indicating that the house was formerly entirely timber-framed.
