GV II

House, divided into 2 cottages. Probably C17, divided into 2 cottages probably C19 and with C20 extension at rear. Roughcast stone rubble and cob. Asbestos slate roof with gabled ends. Rendered lateral stacks at front and back with set-offs and C20 stack at right hand end. Plan: 3-room and through passage plan, the lower end to the left heated from a lateral stack at the front, the hall has a lateral stack at the back and the inner right hand room was unheated. There is a circa C19 outshut at the rear of the lower left end which was probably added when the house was divided into 2 cottages, Heather Cottage occupying the lower left end and passage and Kimberley Nurseries occupying the hall and inner room. In the C20 a 2-storey extension was built at the centre of the back. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4-window north front Kimberley Nurseries to the right has 2 late C19 or C20 2-light casements on the first floor with glazing bars and circa early C20 3 and 4-light casements on the ground floor. Heather Cottage to the left has 2 late C20 first floor casements and circa earlier C20 glazed and panelled door to the right with an early C20 canopy and a projecting lateral stack to the left with set offs and a tall shaft. At the back a large C20 2-storey flat roof extension at centre concealing the lateral stack and an outshut to the right with a slate lean-to roof. Interior: Only Kimberley Nurseries (former hall and inner room) was inspected. It has no exposed early features Heather Cottage (formerly the lower end) is said to have a concealed cross-beam and a large blocked kitchen fireplace. The roof has straight principal rafters with lapped and pegged collars.
