SLAPTON SLAPTON SX8244 Church Wells including 12/99 garden area walls and gate - piers to south
GV II
House. Circa mid C19. Local slate rubble with red brick window arches. Slate hipped roof with crested ridge tiles. Rendered stack on right hand side with yellow clay louvred pots. Plan: Double depth rectangular plan with 2 principal front rooms either side of central entrance and probably smaller service rooms at the back. Exterior: 2 storeys. Almost symmetrical 3-window south front, windows disposed slightly to the right. Circa late C19 2-light casements with glazing bars in openings with cambered red brick arches and slate sills. Central doorway with origin C19 6-panel door, the bottom panels flush and canopy of one large piece of slate supported on shaped wooden brackets. The right hand side has C19 casements with glazing bars to the right. The left hand side facing garden has C19 casement on ground floor with glazing bars and C20 casement above. The rear wall abuts adjoining house. Including front garden area wall; probably C19, local limestone and slate rubble with cement-rendered cappings and pair of small slate-rubble gate piers at centre. The wall is curved and encloses a small front garden in the angle of the front of the house and the outbuildings (qv) to the left. Interior: not inspected but probably retains simple C19 joinery. Included for group value.
