Details
ECCLESTON TOWNGATE SD 51 NW 9/106 Eccleston Old School - GV II
School, now parish hall. Dated 1814 at 1st floor. Coursed squared sandstone, low-pitched hipped slate roof with no chimney. Small rectangular 2-storey building, with dressed quoins and primitive Gothic openings: at left end a pointed arch doorway with plain surround, above the door a squat window of similar shape with square casements in the lower part and Y-tracery in the head; to the right, 2 similar windows on each floor, those at ground floor slightly higher; all these windows have vertical bars in front of the opening part of the casement. Between the 2nd and 3rd windows at 1st floor is a large plaque inscribed:
For the Encouragement of useful Learning And For The Promotion of true Religion This BUILDING was erected By Public SUBSCRIPTION An:Dom: 1814
