GV II
House. Early to mid C19 remodelling of a circa C18 house and with late C19 or early C20 alterations. Stone rubble, pebbledashed at front and sides. Slate hipped roof with wide eaves. Rendered axial, side and rear laterial stacks with rendered stone shafts and louvred yellow clay pots. Plan: Double depth plan house with 2 rooms at the front, a central entrance passage with the staircase at the back and 2 smaller rear service rooms. The left hand rooms heated from back to back fireplaces in an axial stack, the right hand front room has a stack on the side and the room behind has a lateral stack at the back. In the early to mid C19 a bowed 1-room plan addition was built on the left side probably as a shop; it has recently been subdivided. Exterior: 2 storeys. 3-window south front, symmetrical before bay was added on right. C19 16-pane sashes in exposed cases in plain stuccoed architraves. Late C19 or early C20 2 storey canted bay on right with 4 and 2-pane sashes and ogee cast iron gutter. Central doorway with circa late C19 panbelled and glazed door and flat canopy on shaped brackets and with wrought iron lattice sides to porch. The left hand west side of building is bowed, asymmetrical fenestration, 2 C19 16-pane sashes on first floor and 3 4-pane fixed-light windows on ground floor probably replace sashes; doorway to right of centre with large late C19 stuccoed cornice on consoles and late C19 or early C20 glazed door. The rear is whitewashed slate rubble, 12-pane fixed light stair window to left of centre, 2-light casement with glazing bars in blocked doorway to right. C19 flush panel door to right of centre and blocked doorway on left. The right hand (east) side has 2- storey flat roof extension. Interior: C19 joinery on ground floor; the first floor was not inspected.
