Details

UPTON PYNE COWLEY SX 99 NW 3/65 Three Horseshoes - Turlake - II Medium sized house of 1830. Rendered. Hipped slate roof. Rectangular in plan, 2 storeys throughout. Main front, of 3 bays, the central bay breaks forward with pilaster quoins containing recessed panels. A central portico with renewed cornice supported by a pair of Tuscan columns with responds, retains its original simple fanlight. Windows on either side with sashes of 16 panes with margin panes, the 3 sash windows above of 12 panes. Left (west) side is more simply treated: plain pilaster quoins with central bay of 3 windows to each storey break forward. The other side elevation is obscured by later additions. Renewed paired chimneys above both sides. The back elevation is completely unadorned, but with a later small gabled central wing. There are no contemporary internal fittings, but the external appearance of the house remains largely intact except for inserted dormer, and is set between curving flank walls.
