Details
SX 86 NW BROADHEMPSTON BROADHEMPSTON 2/62 Stoope - GV II Small house. Circa late C17. Rendered rubble walls with asbestos slate roof, gable ended. 2 gable end rendered rubble stacks with dripcourses. Originally probably 2 rooms heated by gable end stacks either direct entry or passage which has disappeared. C19 outshuts added at rear. At present the main house has 2 large ground floor rooms. 2 storeys with attic. Asymmetrical 4-window front, 6 to ground floor. All C20 2- light casements with glazing bars. Ground floor centre right window was possibly formerly a doorway. Rendered rubble outshuts along rear wall. Present C20 door at left gable end. Small single light attic window at either gable end. Interior: left-hand ground floor room has 2 waney cross beams, roughly chamfered with run-out stops. Fireplace has cambered wooden lintel, roughly chamfered. The right-hand room has a rough waney beam and fireplace with straight wooden lintel roughly chamfered. On first floor several C18 plank doors survive. Stairs continue up to the attics which are divided into 2 rooms, both plastered, with a lath and plaster partition. The surviving roof trusses are possibly original or C18 and consist of substantial straight principals with lapped and pegged, slightly cambered collars. This house survives in a fairly unaltered form with a number of original features, and preserves a traditional exterior.
