SD 56 NW HALTON-WITH-AUGHTON MAIN STREET Aughton 7/115 The Beeches, 4. 10. 1967 II
House, C18th with C17th remains. Sandstone rubble with slate roof. Main house has central entry and end stacks. Wing at right angles run west towards road at north end. 2 storeys. Windows of main house reconstructed from ones of rebated and chamfered C17th type, now having plain lintels and extended mullions. All are of 3 lights except the ground-floor window to the left of the door which is of 4 lights. Door has plain stone surround. At the rear are rebated and chamfered mullioned windows of 2 and 3 lights. West wing has chimney in gable towards road. Windows have plain reveals except for one on the 1st floor of the north wall which has a rebated and chamfered surround with central mullion missing. In the angle between the wing and main house a lintel with raised lettering 'CF 1680' survives, together with the right-hand moulded jamb of a former doorway.
